Ultimate Greenland
Eastern Greenland Photography Expedition with Jack Graham and Örvar Thorgeirsson
September 3 – 8, 2018 | $5695 (+$650 for single room)

Ultimate Photo Workshops presents six full days in eastern Greenland for experienced photographers! Flights from Reykjavik to Greenland included in the cost!

Eastern Greenland is one of the most the remote regions in the world. With its own language and culture, it is a photographer’s paradise. Greenland is still doesn’t get many tourists, but like Iceland, visitors are increasing every year. Come with us before it gets crowded!

We’ll travel from Reykjavik by air (flight included in cost) to Eastern Greenland. Each day we’ll travel by boat to our selected locations and photograph the small fishing villages, remote landscapes and seascapes, glaciers and its people. If you are a serious landscape and wildlife photographer willing to go back in time and explore the arctic, to travel off the beaten track and sacrifice comfort for the opportunity to get amazing imagery, then this is for you.

On this tour you’ll find icebergs at the size of skyscrapers, steep mountains which fall into the sea, deep fjords, floating icebergs, glaciers, sled dogs, whales, and the culture and settlements of Greenland. Each day we travel and explore new locations by boat. The primary occupation of the natives is fishing and seal hunting. People have lived in Eastern Greenland for certain periods during the last several thousand years but the period when the area is ice-bound that lasts throughout the spring and summer, have made this area very isolated – both from the rest of Greenland and the world at large. The first Europeans came to this area just over a hundred years ago, and this separation from the rest of the country is clearly reflected in the language and culture of the region.

We will have six full days of photography on Greenland. Days 1 and 6 are travel days but time will be available for some sightseeing and photography in Reykjavik.

LODGING: In the beginning and at the end of the trip, we will stay in a very nice hotel in Reykjavik. Greenland is very remote and accommodations are still improving. About half of the time in Greenland we’ll be sharing rooms and bathrooms. Sacrificing comfort for great photography is the only way to travel in this remote area. There are simply no other options. We at Ultimate Photo Workshop want you to know this upfront…no surprises!

BAGGAGE: Baggage restrictions are also a factor. Since we are traveling by boat every day and some days to new locations, we ask you to bring duffle bags not exceeding 40 lbs. No big rolling suitcases since we simply can’t get them on the boats. Of course your camera bag(s) are fine. From experience, please bring only what’s needed.

WEATHER: The temperature in Greenland is highly dependent on where you are. The mean temperature remains below +10° C (50° F) in June, July and August. September is the transition month from Summer to Fall. This provides us with exciting skies and adds to the photographic possibilities
