Forests drop down to hidden coves, rocky beaches and steep cliffs at Whidbey Island's edges before taking a dramatic Pacific Ocean plunge. Despite the fact that the Whidbey Island is easily accessible, the island remains slightly aloof from the empending summer crowds, Its many quaint little coastal communities make for wonderful photography.
We will walk the length of the Deception Pass Bridge and make our way down top to one of Whidbey's most photogenic beaches. Kelp beds ripple with the current around the rocky protrusions that protect the coastline, and whales spout off in season. There are plenty of short trails in the area that lead to scenic overlooks perched so as to take in the length of the island and the far-flung horizon. During May, the water often sparkles after dark with a natural fireworks display of phosphorescence. Nightly sunsets can be breathtaking , looking west over Puget Sound.

There's mich more to enjoy on this wonderful island in Puget Sound..  Small towns like Oak Harbor, Langley and Coupeville appear at intervals along the island's 45-mile stretch (this is the longest island in the country !) Coupeville, one of the state's oldest settlements, is endowed with quaint historic buildings and is just a short drive northeast of Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve. (the nation’s 1st preserve)

Often referred to as Puget Sound's Largest Artist's Colony, Whidbey is home to numerous working artists, writers, and performers. These include many well-known painters, sculptors, glass artists, wood workers, metal workers, mixed media artists, photographers, authors, poets, actors, and musicians.

Each day will consist of discussions on various photography topics including technical and compositional aspects of photography , basic processing information, and critique sessions of your work shot during, and prior to our time together.Other presentations one various subjects concerning nature photography will also be part of this workshop.
