DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK   November 9-13  2012    More information is available by contacting Jack here.

Death Valley is over 3.3 million acres of never ending photograph possibilities. Death Valley NP is also the largest park in the United States. Making quality images in Death Valley NP  can be challenging due to the vastness of the location as well as the light and weather conditions. I have chosen this time of year in order to take advantage of the friendly temperatures as well as the low angle of the light allowing for many hours of quality photography as we go into the winter months.

Death Valley is a study in patterns and textures. We'll work on all of the obvious techniques that goes into making quality  photographs, but we'll also work on learning to see, and slowing down in order to make the most of our time in this magical area.  Topics such as foregrounds, simple backgrounds, lighting, creating depth, alternate viewpoints and correct exposures will all be covered in depth. These are topics that are a must for creating quality images here in Death Valley.

Depepding on the weather & moon phase we'll get out to Stovepipe Dunes for some night photography. This is always a highlight of the workshop.

As always we'll be spending time reviewing our work during the workshop. This time has always proven invaluable.

There is one one Death Valley NP. Please join me for a unforgettable experience that you'll never forget. Consider joining me.

Itinerary

Our itinerary is not cast in stone.  Conditions and light will be considered and changes will occur as needed. I'll be sending out a final itinerary prior to the workshop. Here is a general idea on some of our locations we plan to visit.

We'll meet a Zabrislie Point about 3:30PM on Thursday afternoon NOV 8th and have a brief get together and shoot sunset at Zabriskie Point.

In addition, classroom sessions will include image critiques, photographic discussions , and some processing topics as well.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday .. will feather locations such as Mesquite Sand Dunes at sunrise, Mosaic Canon, Golden Canyon, Artist's Palate, Devils Golf Course, Dante's View, Cottonballs and Badwater at sunrise. It is our goal to get out the the Race Track. This is dependent on the weather as the park closes the road and the playa due to water.

The workshop will end after sunset on Tuesday  Nov 13 ______________________________

FOOD/DINING

During the day, we should carry energy bars and maybe a few candy bars. There is NO water available when we are out in the park photographing. However there are stores where we can stock up by our hotel and again near Stovepipe Wells, near the Mesquite Sand Dunes and Mosaic Canyon locations. Staying hydrated is my primary concern and I will make sure we all have the proper supplies to avoid complications.

Breakfasts are usually at Stovepipe as well as lunches. Dinners are available at Furnace Creek.. The menu is much more varied and seating capacity is more than Stovepipe Wells. We drive past Furnace Creek on the way back to Stovepipe.

However, we are here to photograph and often the best light is at breakfast and dinner. Please know this in advance.

WEATHER

The weather is generally good in the area this time of year.Temp’s average around 70 and low’s around 48.  Weather updates will be sent well in advance of the workshop so you will be prepared. Typically the rainy season, if it occurs at all is over by February.
